Green Globe congratulates Barceló Puerto Vallarta and Occidental Nuevo Vallarta on their very first certifications. Both hotels achieved high scores of 83% and 84% respectively.
Rodolfo Pacheco, General Manager at the two resorts said, “In our experience, the most important thing to have achieved out of the Green Globe certification at the Barceló Puerto Vallarta and Occidental Nuevo Vallarta hotels was the fact that we had real professionals at each of the properties, committed to the environment in an authentic way. This was not an achievement of one single person but the work of Green Team members at each resort.”
Both properties are to be commended for the effort and commitment taken to comply with Green Globe standards.
Barceló Puerto Vallarta
Barceló Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful 5-star Mexican style hotel located on the shores of Mismaloya beach, south of Puerto Vallarta, surrounded by breathtaking mountains and facing the Pacific Ocean.
Energy and water reduction targets have been set with goals to reduce usage in both areas by 3% in the coming year. To meet this goal, technology installed include LED bulbs, timers and motion sensors for lighting as well as digital temperature controls for water and the installation of new advanced chillers.
Guests are invited to participate in World Environment Day activities, fish feeding and tree planting. They can also take part in the linen and towel reuse program. The resort has also taken the initiative to mend damaged linen and towels so they can be reused and cloth remnants are utilized for cleaning purposes where possible.
The all-inclusive Occidental Nuevo Vallarta Resort is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Riviera Nayarit, minutes from the Nuevo Vallarta shopping centre and the best stores and restaurants in the city. In this natural haven, there are various eco-friendly activities and excursions for all ages and tastes including water sports such swimming, diving and canoeing and a full range of activities for children.
Barceló Puerto Vallarta and Occidental Nuevo Vallarta share the same sustainability goals in relation to reducing environmental impacts. A Carbon Footprint program has been implemented at both properties to raise awareness regarding actions staff and guests can take to minimize the generation of greenhouse gas emissions.
Food consumption is also taken seriously at the all-inclusive properties where the ‘all you can eat’ option is too tempting for some. The Love Food approach to eating meals adopted by both resorts, focuses on reducing food waste by encouraging guests to act responsibly and only take reasonable portion sized servings of food at buffets rather than wasting food unnecessarily by overloading plates. In addition, restaurants follow a food allergy program to cater for guests with restricted dietary requirements.
The Barceló Puerto Vallarta and Occidental Nuevo Vallarta recently joined the anti-plastic straw movement and have stopped providing plastic straws to guests at bars, restaurants and in guest rooms.
“We are very proud of both properties, for our food allergy program and the many other initiatives that made it possible to obtain this certification,” concluded Mr Pacheco.
