2015 has been a watershed year for Green Globe, as we approach record levels of membership, our global certification company can truly claim to be the leader in sustainability certification for the Travel & Tourism industry.
Our Global Network: Across 40 countries and counting
From our headquarters in Los Angeles, California, Green Globe’s network stretches to all major leisure and business destinations, with independent auditors and partners in Germany, The Netherlands, France, Portugal, Turkey, North Africa, Central & South America, The Caribbean, South East Asia, India, Sri Lanka, The Maldives, The Middle East and reaching into all neighbouring countries.
Our network includes Independent Auditors, who number in the hundreds and are local professionals accredited to independently verify the unique regional initiatives employed by Travel & Tourism businesses to meet our rigorous sustainability standard. In addition, our Green Globe Preferred Partners, of which we have eight contracted companies, add expertise in environmental and business consulting, keeping our membership up to date with the latest technologies and practices to assist with their continuous improvement in quality and environmental management.
Coordinating this global enterprise is our dedicated team in Los Angeles, who oversee Certification Management, Business Development, Web Services and Communications. Our team has built a strong knowledge base of expertise, which is constantly informing and assisting our world-wide network and providing the highest level of client care. Our annual internship program also hosts two undergraduate university students each year, providing valuable industry training, while capturing new and innovative ideas.
Green Globe managers are connected to members and industry via dedicated social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. And everyday Green Globe delivers to industry the best sustainability practices from our global membership via the Green Globe Blog. From the simplest energy and water saving ideas, to major equipment overhauls and new management directions, all our members’ great innovations can be found on our blog.
Green Globe managers travel each year to all major trade shows including the World Tourism Market in London, IMEX in Germany and the United States, Arabian Travel Market in Dubai and ITB in Berlin, among many other regional trade events in Asia and the Caribbean.
Online Education and Training: Providing knowledge to Travel & Tourism
To maintain a consistent level of expertise throughout our network, Green Globe has been an innovator in the development and deployment of online education and training. The Green Globe Academy is home to the only Accreditation Course offering professionals the opportunity to qualify as a certified Green Globe Auditor. The Academy is a self-paced, e-learning program with evaluation modules to provide professionals with the foundations of sustainability and how this ethical approach is applied to Travel & Tourism.
For students, Green Team members and professionals looking to re-skill, Green Globe also delivers its Training Program. Based on Academy curriculum, the Training Program provides instruction on essential sustainability concepts.
Supporting this online education and training, Green Globe also maintains a community forum for sharing best practice and seeking assistance. The Solution Centre is open to all members and also provides links to preferred vendors and suppliers.
Green Globe Standard for Travel & Tourism: The original and the best
The Green Globe Standard and its 43 criteria provides members with 330 individual indicators, or activities, that can be undertaken to demonstrate sustainable operations and management. These indicators are constantly updated to meet with the evolving definition of sustainability and the desire of the Travel & Tourism industry to demonstrate leadership in preservation of the environment and cultural heritage, while supporting the economic development of host communities.
The Standard is available in five languages and across all major Travel & Tourism sectors including: Hotels & Resorts, Supplier Businesses, Congress Centers, Cruise Ships, Golf Courses, Meeting & Events, Restaurants, Spa & Health Centers and Transportation.
Green Globe was the first organization to develop an international sustainability certification for Travel & Tourism in 1993. All other global, and many regional tourism certifications program, including the GSTC (Global Sustainability Council), are based on the original research and development carried out by Green Globe and its government and industry partners, including UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) and WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council). Green Globe is an Affiliate Member of the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization).
Green Globe Success: More members, saving more, every year
Green Globe is proud to see our membership growing by an average of ten percent annually. This means more of the world’s leading Travel & Tourism businesses are adopting sustainability as their preferred management approach. By meeting the Green Globe Standard we know our members have achieved on average an 8.7% reduction in operating costs, as well as significant reductions in water usage, greenhouse gas pollution and the amount of waste to landfill.
Green Globe has dedicated its success to bringing better environmental outcomes for the planet. At the same time we also believe in giving back by supporting local social and sporting clubs as well as through financial contributions to UNICEF and their tireless work dealing with regional emergencies including the recent refugee crisis originating in Syria. In addition Green Globe sponsors sports teams in Europe as well as students in the Caribbean & Asia.
