Green Globe recently awarded Mount Cinnamon Resort & Beach Club Gold status marking five consecutive years of certification. The resort also achieved a high compliance score of 84%.

Mount Cinnamon Resort & Beach Club in Grenada is home to 28 bespoke villas and suites tucked away in a lush hillside where guests enjoy sun-bathing, snorkeling, and breath-taking views of Grand Anse beach.

Since 2013, the resort has been committed to environmental sustainability through Green Globe certification. Mount Cinnamon recognizes that environmental sustainability is not limited to simply reducing the property’s carbon footprint but that it functions simultaneously with community based programs. The resort has achieved Green Globe re-certification year after year based on its successful resource management. For the past 2 years, the resort’s main focus has been directed toward greater community engagement and remains so for 2019.

Jonnel Edwards, Environmental Consultant to Mount Cinnamon said, “We have made a commitment to supporting the local population, especially young people. Community involvement will be reinforced through staff training and environmental awareness workshops. Our staff are the backbone of our operations, and we acknowledge the importance of their perspectives on sustainability. A strong Green Team is the key to disseminating our sustainability initiatives to our guests, and to drive the system that we have built over the last five years. Mount Cinnamon is proud to have achieved Green Globe Gold Status and we will continue to develop our best practices.”

The Green Team at Mount Cinnamon has devised innovative ways to combine resource management with community programs. Reusing glass bottles from the resort bar by donating them to a local honey producer is just one example. This venture addresses sustainability issues as well as supports the local economy.

Other community initiatives include the Pack-For-A-Purpose program where guests are invited to pack much needed school supplies in their luggage prior to their arrival in Grenada which are donated to a local school. In addition, gifts of toiletries, food and furniture are donated to a local children’s orphanage by the resort.

A core part of the property’s success is its location on the south coast of Grenada where travelers and locals can relish the luxury of pure, white sand beaches. Mount Cinnamon’s Green Team commits to coastal cleanups several times a year to ensure that the beaches, along with the lush foliage that lines the coastal landscape, are well maintained. The commitment amongst staff members to continue this environmental initiative builds team morale as well as preserves the natural surroundings.
