Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is a luxury lifestyle hotel located in the heart of the capital overlooking the city’s iconic canals. Guests can enjoy the quirky Dutch-inspired art and design by world-renowned designer Marcel Wanders and picturesque views. The largest private video art collection in Europe, with over 50 works by various local and international video artists is displayed throughout the hotel.
Green Globe has recertified Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht for the seventh year.
Formerly a library, the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site has introduced environmentally friendly measures where possible to minimize its footprint. As a monumental building, restrictions are in place such as the ban on the installation of solar panels. However, energy and water saving measures and the prevention of overheating have been successfully implemented including an Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage system (WKO), a BMS and heat recovery system, use of a high efficiency boiler, double paned glass windows and LED lighting. As a Hyatt hotel, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht utilizes the online EcoTrack system to monitor electricity, water and gas usage. By 2020 the hotel aims to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per square meter and water per guest night by 25% compared to 2006.
Sustainable Purchasing Policy
Where available, the hotel chooses consumable goods that are re-usable, returnable and recycled or recyclable. Seasonal, locally inspired cuisine and innovative cocktails are served at the Bluespoon Restaurant & Bar. The Bluespoon Bar leads the green bartending movement in the city where cocktails are low waste or no waste, using overripe fruit, stalks and peels that are usually thrown away. Citrus peels are reused and made into a powdered form that is used in the creation of sensational syrups and cocktails.
Sustainability and the essence of being Dutch, are visible throughout the hotel through its design and food. Front Office staff can advise guests about a range of local activities that feature uniquely Dutch culture such as walking tours, museums, boat rides on the famous canals and dining at nearby restaurants. Andaz hotel staff make an effort to encourage guests to use low-impact transport such as bicycles and electric boats.
