Green Globe announces re-certification of the Congress Center Duesseldorf (CCD) in Germany. For years the CCD has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and social responsibility. The CCD integrated the philosophy of sustainability at all levels, making it the core of the company’s corporate strategy.
“At Duesseldorf Congress, corporate responsibility is a top priority,” said Markus Demuth, Division Director at the CCD. “Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that the CCD is in compliance with 86% of the indicators required for Green Globe certification. We are very proud about this prestigious award and the international recognition. My special ‘thank you’ goes to our catering partner, Stockheim, who received several awards for their progressive environmental policies and practices.”
“Sustainable meeting management means we have to invest in the future,” adds Hilmar Guckert, CEO at the CCD. “To take a step beyond living and communicating this awareness, the CCD Congress Center Duesseldorf, has become one of the first convention centers in the world to achieve Green Globe certification.”
The CCD Congress Center Duesseldorf implemented a long-term Sustainability Management System, and operational performance is strictly monitored. In recent years the CCD could reduce energy consumption by 23%, a solar energy system is planned to be installed on the roof. A comprehensive waste management system is in place, and the CCD provides a convenient recycling infrastructure in form of recycling stations and recycling points throughout the complex. Visitors are encouraged to arrive by train, and select event tickets include public transportation. As part of events and general business activities the CCD supports many charitable organizations and social projects worldwide, such as ‘World Famine Relief’.
Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented, “We are extremely pleased to award re-certification to the CCD Congress Center Duesseldorf in Germany. Large events are major sources of pollution, with people travelling from all over the place, flyers, program brochures, and energy consumption that could easily supply an entire small town, the list goes on and on. Event organizers have to act in a responsible manner and inspire partners, consumers, and fans in terms of green actions. With their environmental efforts, the Congress Center Duesseldorf impresses with an innovative approach to be 100% eco-friendly.”
