Located in one of Lisbon’s typical neighborhoods, the Inspira Santa Marta was designed to be much more than just a hotel. The Inspira management has invested in sustainable strategies, along with the latest technology infrastructure to ensure an environmentally-friendly operation and act responsibly. This property impresses with a deep commitment to sustainable actions, which recently earned Green Globe re-certification.
“The Green Globe re-certification to us is even more rewarding than the initial certification, because it challenges us to increase our score on the compliance scale for next year,” said Nicolas Roucos, General Manager at the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel in Lisbon. “It is our goal to continuously raise the standard of sustainability in our operation, while creating a sense of awareness among our staff, guests, partners, suppliers, and all stakeholders on our journey into sustainable development.”
Community heritage and the preservation of the natural environment is part of the hotel’s sustainability policy. The Inspira Santa Marta Hotel is actively involved with the local community, “Supporting the community inspires us,” Nicolas Roucos pointed out. As a result of the partnership with APPDA (the Portuguese Association for autistic people), the hotel became one of the few places selling objects created by APPDA members. All revenue made from selling those handmade pieces of art reverts to APPDA, helping to provide services for people with autism disorders and their families.
Fundraising events, such as for LACO, the Association for Breast Cancer, ABRACO, a Portuguese non-profit organization, supporting people affected by HIV/AIDS, or Fundacao Osorio de Castro – a charity for children with cancer – are sponsored by the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel on a regular basis. Inspira Santa Marta employees are frequently involved in responsible initiatives, and the hotel hosts workshops on environmental topics throughout the year.
On a global level, the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel partners with Pump Aid, an international water and sanitation charity, dedicated to the construction of water pumps and fittings in African countries. Hotel guests contribute donations with the purchase of filtered water in glass bottles, recycled at the hotel.
By implementing numerous green practices, the Inspira Santa Marta has gained a competitive advantage, as a hotel, operating in a niche market. For more information please watch The Inspira Santa Marta video on Green Globe’s youtube channel: mygreenglobe.com.
