CHIC by Royalton Punta Cana: Outstanding Performance in the Caribbean

CHIC by Royalton Punta Cana offers an Adults Only All Exclusive experience where guests can enjoy an elegant yet relaxed resort ambiance on the golden sands of Punta Cana’s coveted Uvero Alto Beach.

Green Globe recently recertified CHIC by Royalton Punta Cana for the third consecutive year awarding the property an outstanding compliance score of 92%.

After two back to back hurricanes caused widespread damage in the Dominican Republic, the resort bounced back quickly while other hotels remained closed. This rapid recovery can be attributed to the high standards and commitment to processes that are fundamental to the environmental certification program. Long term action plans combined with ongoing maintenance programs allows individual departments to make changes whilst maintaining compliance without any major defaults.

In accordance with its sustainability management plan, monthly training for all managers includes the comparison of metrics with previous results to continuously improve standards. In addition, resort management actively supports a clear communication strategy whereby each employee is constantly reminded of sustainability practices through visual aids, the broadcasting of Green Globe policies on an internal TV channel and continued training.

The team works together to find new ways to reduce environmental impacts while also saving money. A room key program is in place where an ID bracelet with a chip embedded in it allows room access and can also be recycled. In addition, half used rolls of toilet paper and tissue paper are collected and distributed for usage in public restrooms. Similarly, old linen and soap remnants are redistributed and used within cleaning and maintenance sections rather than being discarded.

In the wider community, a new internship program – the TUI Academy – was launched which aims to teach core hospitality skills to young women that will enable them to retain employment. The program also provides accommodation and insurance for the students whilst they undergo training in various hotel departments.
