Green Globe member, the Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge, located at Chepu, Chiloe Island, Insular Patagonia, in the south of Chile, was named one of the Top 10 Eco-Stays for 2014. Editors and travel experts at Lonely Planet have curated a list of outstanding eco-friendly hotels and resorts around the world, and hand-picked 10 of the best green stays.

Chepu Adventures is an award-winning site of innovation in sustainable living and tourism, featuring alternative energy and low-impact activities. Eco Lodge owners Amory Uslar and Fernando Claude have designed everything at this eco-fierce property with the end goal of complete self-sufficiency, from infrared solar showers to wind-generated electricity to wood-alternative fiber construction.

“Sustainability to us is not only our way of life – it is our passion!” said Amory Uslar, Owner of Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge. “We do have to take good care of nature, as it is our main supplier. For my husband and I, this is our life project to accomplish 100% sustainable living – to live in perfect harmony with our environment.”

Visitors can monitor their own water consumption via a computer-fed feedback on the amount of water they are using. If customers keep “within their eco limit” they get a choice of either planting a tree in Patagonia, or receive a discount on their hotel bill.

In line with their green philosophy, Chepu Adventures invites guests to respect the limits of the resources available. The Eco Lodge exists to share, protect, and preserve the pristine beauty of its natural surroundings, while promoting local community involvement and culture. Local art and handicrafts, based on the area’s history, are exhibited on a regular basis at the Eco Lodge.

Other inspiring Eco Stays 2014 include Lapa Rios, Peninsula de Osa, in Costa Rica, Bulungula Backpackers in South Africa, Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, Aguas Calientes, Peru, Maison Anglaise, Taroudant, in Morocco, Earthship Rentals, Taos, New Mexico, USA, Dana Guest House in Jordan, Nuli Sapi in Papua New Guinea, Baikaler Eco-Hostel, Listvyanka, in Russia, and Chole Mjini, Chole Island, Mafia Archipeleago, in Tanzania.
