Surviving the ravages of Mother Nature and her massively destructive hurricane season 2017, Puerto Rico has gathered hoteliers and travel industry professionals together to hold the annual Caribbean Travel Marketplace.

The opening ceremony saw CHTA and government officials speak directly to the resilience and rebuilding of the this island and the wider region. As we look at the challenges faced, the president of CHTA reminded our gathering of the fact that not only the islands which were hit suffered enormous damage, but that the whole region has been impacted from the perception that the Caribbean was closed for business.

The continued rebuilding is demonstrating the collective efforts of our region to get sister islands back on their feet. This has led to the One Caribbean Relief effort and more recently the One Caribbean marketing and promotion campaign, promoting our region as a sustainable and desirable travel destination.

The Caribbean remains the most geographically sustainable region under Green Globe and so many of our members are now Gold Certified or are approaching same. As the rebuilding continues we will be there to support, offer advice , training and other initiatives to help this unique, exotic gem, this One Caribbean continue to be the hallmark for sustainability and wellness in the world.
