President, European Association of Event Centres (EVVC)

Early on, the European Association of Event Centers (EVVC) recognized the signs and engaged with sustainability.

Knowing that event centers, in particular,  bring together large numbers of delegates on a daily basis, and in the course thereof produce significant carbon dioxide emissions, EVVC and the German Convention Bureau (GCB) have together taken responsibility to provide event centers with the necessary knowledge and tools to address this challenge.

With Green Globe, every single venue receives support concerning the revision of processes, conserving resources and saving expenditure. By increasing public relations and implementing the Green Meetings and Events Conference, which is to be held every two years, awareness of sustainability has increased continuously in this sector in recent years.

Today more than 50% of our clients think that it is important that service providers have an established Sustainability Management System – a trend that all players in our industry are keen to follow.

To set an example for our members and the meetings industry overall, the offices of both EVVC and GCB have achieved Green Globe certification and are therefore continually working on improving their operations.

In the meantime, EVVC Service and Event GmbH has been appointed as Green Globe Auditor for German speaking event centers, and as such are instrumental in the uptake of sustainable practices by members. Both EVVC and GCB are committed to deliver the best for all involved in the German event and meeting sector through practices developed by industry, for industry.

Doing the right thing for the event industry – by the industry, for the industry – remains the objective of both organizations‏ EVVC and GCB.
