Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort lies nestled on a 14-acre stretch of white sand on the most romantic and secluded section of Eagle Beach in Aruba.

Green Globe recently recertified Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, marking continuous certification of the property for over 17 years. Last year, the resort was awarded Platinum status in acknowledgement of its outstanding commitment to green practices.

Sustainable luxury and eco-friendly practices are entwined at the property and has been since it was first opened in 1987. This year the resort is celebrating its 30th Anniversary, a landmark milestone. The resort continues to meet and exceed energy and water reduction goals. Energy usage is recorded regularly and compared on a monthly/ yearly basis. Currently, the resort is in the process of acquiring SmartMeters to measure electrical usage at different points throughout the resort. Furthermore, water saving measures are in place such as low flow shower heads and aerators, and water efficient toilet systems. In the gardens, grey water is recycled and used for irrigation and indigenous plants feature in landscaping.

To minimize the resort’s environmental impact, waste weight is recorded for all types of trash. Bucuti’s future plan is to recycle plastic with a local foundation to increase its waste stream diversion rate.

In addition to incorporating the highest level of eco-friendly practices into daily operations, owner and noted environmentalist Ewald Biemans spearheads a number of widely recognized environmental initiatives and is committed to educating guests and the local community on the importance of conservation. Eco-experiences on offer at the resort include turtle nesting and hatchling programs, support of the Donkey Sanctuary and monthly beach clean-ups.

Bucuti has been instrumental in backing local environmental causes and social initiatives. A pet adoption program was instigated by Mr. Biemans in association with local vets to find homes for stray dogs and cats. While Pack for a Purpose was started by Bucuti along with the assistance of its guests to provide much needed items such as clothes and toiletries for children at Imeldhof Children’s Home, a local orphanage. Many children at the home are long time residents who greatly appreciate the generosity of guests who have also been donating electronic games.
