Brittany Tourism aims for 3% Annual Reduction in Greenhouse Gases

Brittany Tourism (Tourisme Bretagne) is the official committee in charge of promoting France’s beautiful region of Brittany, which takes in 2,800km of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean from the Loire estuary in the south to Mont Saint-Michel Bay in the north.

Recently renewing its sustainability certification with Green Globe, Brittany Tourism has committed to continuous improvement with the support of all its employees. To assist with this commitment the organization has implemented an in-house dashboard which tracks sustainable development indicators, including reduction of electricity consumption, a carbon footprint calculation as well as waste reduction.

Within the framework of their certification’s sustainability management plan, Brittany Tourism has also committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 3% every year. To reach this goal, Brittany Tourism began by carrying out a carbon assessment of their organization’s activities, followed by the establishment of an action plan which included, as its main focus, reduction of the organization’s electricity usage and the volume of waste paper, along with curding greenhouse gas emissions due to travel.

Brittany Tourism has been a certified member of Green Globe for two years and besides its environmental activities it is also active in the field of corporate social responsibility. Brittany Tourism has joined “Artisans du monde”, a distribution network for fair trade products. And in addition, after consulting with its green team, the agency subscribed to « planète enfants » a non-governmental organization which protects children against trafficking, sexual exploitation and other forms of violence.

Along with these major commitments, Brittany Tourism has also implemented small changes which also make a big difference over time. The organization’s employees have joined together to purchase local agricultural produce in bulk orders which are delivered to their workplace. This action contributes to local economic development and also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by cutting down individual travel.
