“It is a privilege and an honor to receive the Green Globe certification yet again – for the 5th time,” said Ursula Wetzels, Owner of the Sea-U Guest House in Bathsheba, St. Joseph, Barbados. “Maintaining this certification is not a chore but a heartfelt pleasure as we come together to protect our environment of our beautiful tropical island.”
For years, this property has demonstrated a firm commitment to meet the highest international standards in regards to the environment, conservation and corporate social responsibility. Sea-U Guest House’s green initiatives did outstanding work, promoting awareness on all levels.
“It has always been our goal to sustain the natural beauty of Bathsheba and its tropical garden, which blend so perfect into the untamed beauty of Barbados’ rugged east coast. Our daily practices at the Guest House have now become a personal way of life for all of us involved with the business. Being green is part of our daily life and routine at the Guest House. A wide range of eco-friendly practices has been implemented into our operation, and at the moment we are working on exchanging the energy saving bulbs with LED technology,” added Ursula Wetzels.
Guests are encouraged to sharpen their sense of environmental responsibility and keep their carbon footprint at an absolute minimum. During their stay, they get the opportunity to mingle with locals in the small community of Bathsheba, enjoy traditional Bajan dining, and dance to local Reggae and Soca music at night.
As part of its community initiatives, Sea U Guest House is a proud member of the Variety Club of Barbados, dedicated to supporting the sick, disadvantaged and disabled children of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. The charity provides sunshine coaches for the Children’s Development Center, The Chancellor School, The Ursaline Schools, and the Sunshine Early Stimulation Center in Barbados.
‘Doing the right things by doing things right’ is the motto Barbados’ Sustainable Development Policy. Barbados has a Natural Tourism Policy, whose broad objective is to pursue sustainable tourism through conservation and managed use of its natural heritage, improvement and optimal use of human resources, to ensure a product of the highest quality, improving the life and economic development of the people of Barbados.
