A Tropical Haven reinforces Environmental Commitment

“After receiving the Highest Achievement Award in 2012, we are delighted to improve our score against the Green Globe criteria even further,” says Mr. Patrick Both, General Manager at the Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villa Resort & Spa in Thailand. “On an island like Koh Phangan, where you can still find natural beauty, being green is of utmost importance. Green Globe is a fantastic initiative to be environmentally-friendly and to raise awareness among our staff and guests.”

The Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan fully embraces the lush and natural splendor of blissful Koh Phangan, and is in close proximity to many of the island’s most enchanting hideaways. This tropical haven is constantly reinforcing its commitment to environmental, social and cultural conservation, adhering to the requirements of the Green Globe standards.

“We set a high priority on the development and training of our associates, nurturing excellence amongst us, and strengthening our green, social and cultural initiatives. Our staff members also implement our green workplace policy into their own homes”, added Mr. Both.

Energy and water consumption is minimized in all areas of the resort through the combined efforts of guests and staff, while reduction targets of at least 10% annually are set. Projects for 2014 include the installation of a heat pump and solar energy generation.

The resort is actively involved with the local community, promoting indigenous culture and the island’s rich tradition. Guests are encouraged to participate in area excursions, to explore the island’s intrigue and mystery, trekking the jungle and visiting jungle temples. In partnership with the community, the property organizes beach clean ups on a regular basis. Charitable events, such as refurbishing the learning center at Thong Nai Pan School, or supporting the library project at Tong Nai Pan Temple, are of great importance to the Anantara Rasananda team.

All Anantara properties across Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, the Maldives, and the Middle East immerse in local initiatives that give back to the community and environment, enhancing the social and environmental surroundings of each Anantara destination. Whether it’s rescuing street elephants in Thailand, marine turtle protection in Phuket, coral rejuvenation in the Maldives or supporting local farmers in Indonesia, Anantara is dedicated to carrying out a corporate social responsibility program at a grassroots level in each of its exotic locations around the world.
