Giving support to World Responsible Tourism Day, Inspira Santa Marta Hotel held an initiative at Lisbon Botanical Garden on the 5th of November, in partnership with the National Natural History and Science Museum, of Lisbon’s University.

The aim was to promote the conservation of local biodiversity by inviting a group of stakeholders to participate in gardening activities in Lisbon Botanical Garden. The group included hotel amenities supplier A62 (also a Green Globe member), The Retreat Spa and GRACE, Portugal’s biggest corporate social responsibility organization.

GRACE Executive Director, Maria João de Almeida was truly inspired by the initiate saying, “This is an example that should be followed, Inspira is an inspiration in social responsibility and volunteer activities. The team is committed in turning this world into a better one.”

In accordance with previous activities of this kind, Inspira will continue with it commitment to the National Natural History and Science Museum providing regular maintenance of a select area of the garden throughout the year.

Lisbon Botanical Garden is an amazing space located right in the city center and visited by around 80,000 tourists a year. Extending over 4 acres, between Avenida da Liberdade and Principe Real, the garden is greatly valued for its contribution to education, culture and leisure. Opened in 1878, it was planted to support botany teaching at the Polytechnic School, but has always played an important role as a site of leisure and recreation among the student population and the surrounding areas.
