Green Globe Competitive Advantages

Green Globe Certification compared to other certifications is the most comprehensive sustainability certification as it addresses performance and global consideration of socio- economic topics, environmental issues, climate and cultural heritage

Additionally, Green Globe requires its members to develop a Sustainability Management Plan for evaluation and continuous improvement and to deliver triple bottom line advantages to their enterprises and the host destination. This approach goes far beyond the “tick & flick” checklists of Travelife, GreenKey and others.

Green Globe certification is specifically tailored for travel & tourism with diversified standards for 13 industry sectors that make up  the hospitality, travel and tourism industry opposed to other certifications such as Earthcheck that provide certification against non-tourism specific standards.

Green Globe members that want to become Green Globe Certified have to undergo an independent, third-party, on-site audit by an accredited Green Globe auditor. Most other certifications are based on “self-assessment” and “self-administered” audits which are not conducted by third-party professional auditors who visit and inspect the facilities. Thus, having a compulsory independent, third party audit, conducted on-site manifests the Green Globe Certification as the most credible and trustworthy certification.

Green Globe membership rates vary depending on region, location and size of the enterprise and are available on the Green Globe webpage. Other certification companies either have fixed rates like EarthCheck, Green Key Global, Travelife and Viabono or rates that are not communicated openly on their webpage such as Green Key Europe, ISO 14001, Green Leaf and White Star. This provides prospective Green Globe members with more transparency and, therefore, delivers more credibility and trust.

Green Globe enables its members to connect and to network. Members are given access to the Green Globe Solution Center, which acts as a social network and an information exchange base amongst Green Globe members and affiliates. The Green Globe Solution Center is also a resource base to inform members about recent sustainability developments and the Green Globe Standard. Additionally, Green Globe offers an e-learning tool – the Green Globe Academy – for all new Green Globe members to enhance their knowledge in sustainability and tutor them in sustainability related topics and in the general Green Globe Standard and Criteria framework. Only EarthCheck and Travelife offer similar systems where members can share information and use online resources that are only available for members.

Additionally, Green Globe is represented within other social networks and media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube, where Green Globe members can communicate their achievements and innovative ideas to a broader audience. Other Certification companies integrated these tools as well in their marketing activities, Green Globe, however, being represented on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Blogger and via  the Green Globe App  markets its members most extensively.

Moreover, Green Globe advertises its members within other media as well. Green Globe members are promoted by Green Globe through inclusion of member videos on their TripAdvisor pages. The Green Globe Youtube channel also gives Green Globe members the opportunity to communicate their successes and solutions for managing their properties more sustainably.

Besides promoting its members through social networks Green Globe – similarly to Earthcheck, Travelife, Green Key Europe and Green Key Global – publishes news about its members and their achievements in the monthly Green Globe newsletter Global News. Additionally Green Globe is unique in providing a weekly press release service to all members via  eturbonews and other online publishing channels as well as the Green Globe Blog. The aggregated audience via web syndication of these press releases is estimated at one billion travel consumers, travel professionals and investors.

Additionally the Green Globe website,, features all members according to their location and their field of business and, like the Green Globe App, simplifies booking  of sustainable travel and accommodation. All members have their booking websites linked directly to both and the Green Globe App.  Additionally Green Globe members can advertise their successes and different approaches to sustainability on the Green Globe website. Thus, Green Globe matches, and in some cases exceeds, other certifications such as Earthcheck and Travelife that feature case studies and reports on their webpages.

Lastly, no other certification company has developed an App for travelers to access and book sustainable hotels on their smartphone and other mobile devices.

Green Globe Certification is represented and promotes all members at the most renowned tourism trade shows in the world such as World Travel Market in London, ITB in Berlin, IMEX in Frankfurt/Main, the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, ITB ASIA in Singapore, Caribbean Marketplace on Jamaica and many other trade shows.
