Green Globe congratulates Calabash Grenada on its ongoing commitment to support Grenada’s children’s homes.
Guests at Calabash have already contributed over 500 euro to the Bel Air Children’s Home at Calliste and are on track to donate much more. The money has been raised from the sale of a booklet that profiles the tropical gardens in which the hotel is set.
Peter Sotheran, a regular guest at the Calabash Grenada was so impressed with the gardens that he photographed and prepared notes on many of the tropical plants featured within the hotel grounds. He then produced and printed a 24 page booklet illustrated in full colour with photographs. Guests are invited to donate and purchase a copy. When all the stock of the booklet has finally sold out, it will have raised a total of 2500 euro for the children’s home.
“We take great pride in our gardens and are delighted that the booklet enables our guests to support the children’s home,” said Adele Garbutt, Resort Director.
In addition, other generous guests have donated household items to Grenada’s Emergency Shelter for teenage girls as well as making other financial contributions to The Bel Air Children’s Home, The Queen Elizabeth Home for Children, The Dorothy Hopkin Centre for the Disabled, the Programme for Adolescent Mothers. Staff training and supplies have also been provided to Father Mullaghan’s Home for Boys in Victoria.
Calabash proudly promotes “Pack for a Purpose” an initiative that allows visitors to make a lasting and positive impact. Visitors to the resort set aside space in their luggage to bring supplies for the children’s homes. The initiative has proven to be the single, most effective and consistent scheme that has worked for the homes.
Green Globe Director of Communications, Mr Bradley Cox, said, “Calabash Grenada continues to impress all with its community support efforts and guest relations program. It provides a fine example of what can be achieved when hotels work together with their clientele and the local community.”
