The resort has a comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan with a particular focus on environmental and sociocultural areas. To reduce electrical consumption energy efficient lighting has been installed throughout the property and power saving switches deployed in all guest rooms, while all computers are turned off in back of house offices afterhours.
Effective waste minimization strategies have been implemented at the resort. All waste is sent to the Green Area run by Orascom, a waste management company. It is then sorted and segregated into recyclable and non-recyclable items. To date, a 93% waste diversion rate has been reported at the facility. Also, biodegradable amenities are placed in guest bathrooms, staff rooms, public restrooms and the fitness centre. In addition, the resort’s purchasing policy prefers re-usable, returnable and recycled goods where available.
Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna’s restaurants and kitchens source its ingredients from the city of Hurghada that is located within a 24 km radius from the resort. This means food items are not only purchased locally but also significant savings regarding transportation costs are made.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities the resort actively engages guests in activities such as Earth Day and tree planting. Furthermore, the resort supports local charities and organizations such as Dolphin Watch through offering use of its facilities.
