Art’otel Amsterdam is a contemporary European hotel belonging to the Park Plaza Hotels group that fuses exceptional architectural style with art-inspired interiors. Art’otel Amsterdam is located in the former Kadaster office which first opened its doors in 1920 when it was the head office of Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd, a shipping company. The art of Atelier Van Lieshout, the signature artist of the Art’otel, permeates every corner of the hotel which combines heritage features with modern design.

Green Globe congratulates the Art’otel Amsterdam on being awarded its first certification in acknowledgement of its commitment to sustainable management and operations.

Historical Dutch architecture has been maintained through extensive renovations that sought to preserve the façade of the building whilst incorporating high-end accommodation and a new public art and cultural space. Within the hotel, guests are exposed to a myriad of artistic experiences including a 12-metre two-storey art curtain, one of the biggest permanent interactive art installations in Europe that displays video art throughout the day. There is also a varied program of exhibitions from emerging and established artists and a comprehensive library that offers lectures, publications, events and workshops. A dedicated art curator is on hand offering tours to inquisitive visitors and the art concierge shares Amsterdam’s cultural agenda and recommends galleries and exhibitions, which assists regional development.

As a Green Globe member, resource management is an integral part of Art’otel Amsterdam’s sustainable goals. Light sensors are placed wherever possible including back of house areas and cloakrooms to minimize energy consumption. Lighting is also dimmed at night in guest corridors and in the bar, restaurant and the gallery at several times during the day. In addition, timers and sensors control outdoor lighting.

Located opposite the city’s Central Station, public transportation is easily accessible reducing the property’s carbon footprint. Furthermore, twenty-five rental bikes are available for hire for guests to explore this dynamic city and the chance to mingle with the locals.
